Current Medical Science - Call for Papers: Special Issue on “Inflammation and Cardiovascular Disease”

Scope:

The purpose of this special issue is to explore the complex interplay between inflammation and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Inflammation is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular conditions, including atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, hypertension, and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation. This special issue aims to gather high-quality research that delves into the molecular and cellular mechanisms linking inflammation with cardiovascular disease, as well as novel therapeutic strategies targeting inflammatory pathways to improve cardiovascular outcomes.

Research Topics:

We invite submissions of original research articles, reviews, clinical studies, letters and perspectives on the following topics:

1. Molecular mechanisms of inflammation in CVD:

  • Pathways and mediators of inflammation in the development and progression of atherosclerosis.
  • The role of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in myocardial infarction and heart failure.
  • Mechanistic insights into how chronic inflammation contributes to endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodeling.

2. Immune cell involvement in cardiovascular disease:

  • Contributions of different immune cell types (e.g., macrophages, T cells, B cells) to cardiovascular pathology.
  • The role of T cell subtypes, including CD4+, CD8+, and regulatory T cells, in the progression of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Novel insights into immune cell interactions and their impact on cardiac tissue.

3. Inflammation and arrhythmias:

  • The influence of inflammatory processes on the development of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.
  • Studies examining the relationship between immune system dysregulation and atrial fibrillation.
  • Potential therapeutic targets within inflammatory pathways for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmias.

4. Biomarkers of inflammation in cardiovascular disease:

  • Identification and validation of novel inflammatory biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of CVD.
  • The use of biomarkers to monitor disease progression and therapeutic responses in cardiovascular patients.
  • Therapeutic Strategies Targeting Inflammation in CVD:

5. Clinical trials and experimental studies on anti-inflammatory therapies in cardiovascular disease.

  • Emerging drugs and biological agents aimed at modulating inflammatory responses in cardiovascular pathology.
  • The potential of lifestyle and dietary interventions to reduce inflammation and improve cardiovascular health.

6. Translational and Clinical Research:

  • Case studies and clinical trials investigating the role of inflammation in patient outcomes.
  • Translational research bridging the gap between basic science discoveries and clinical applications in CVD.

We look forward to your contributions that will enhance our understanding of the pivotal role of inflammation in cardiovascular disease and pave the way for innovative therapeutic approaches. Submissions should provide novel insights or advancements in the field and will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the highest quality of published work.
