Abstract

This final chapter aims to summarise the main ideas discussed in the book regarding Cross-Border Higher Education (CBHE) concepts, different modes of delivery, the influence of the GATS agreement and the European Services Directive, the CBHE experiences in some countries, the stakeholders’ views and the way to assure quality. The chapter further discusses some avenues for future debate, and explores the potential benefits and threats that future developments may carry.

While many contributors of this book claim that CBHE is not a totally new topic for higher education, international activities have been dramatically expanding in volume, scope and complexity. For this reason, quality assurance for all these types of CBHE is required, which will probably entail more collaboration between quality assurance agencies and enforcement of global guidelines.
