Wudalianchi Global Geopark, China

Wudalianchi Geopark is located in Heilongjiang Province, China. It covers an area of 720 km2, and its main features are volcanic geological landforms. The Wudalianchi volcanoes are the best preserved, the most typical recent volcanic cluster in China. The geopark area contains 14 conical volcanoes, 11 shield volcanoes and 8 scoria cones. Twelve volcanoes are older and erupted between 12 and 1 million years ago, whereas the other two are the youngest volcanoes in China; they erupted between 1719 and 1721 and cover an area of more than 60 km2. The old and new volcanoes are collocated. Relatively small-scale cinder cones and shield-shaped volcanoes lie on the relatively large table-like lava platform, which covers an area of 800 km2. The geopark has extremely rich geodiversity, especially volcanic geology and landscapes.
