Abstract

This lesson was created to help students connect to the text To Kill a Mockingbird through dramatizing the trial, which takes place in chapter 17 of the novel. The objectives of the lesson were to enable students to understand the novel by acting out the scene as a class and to use prior knowledge of the characters to effectively portray each one’s emotions during the trial. The lesson provides the opportunity for kinesthetic learners to actually stand up and act out the scene while at the same time meeting the needs of auditory learners who are able to hear the interaction between the characters.
