Maintained Image Quality and Dose Reduction with Spiral CT of the Thorax and Upper Abdomen

Advances in CT III

Abstract

Preoperative computed tomographic (CT) staging of lung cancer includes examination of the lung parenchyma, mediastinal structures, chest wall, liver and adrenals. With spiral CT the whole volume of interest can be covered with one spiral and one i.v. contrast injection. This reduces examination time and contrast medium dose. A third advantage with the spiral CT technique presented here, is reduction of radiation dose.
