Abstract

In Spiral computed tomography (CT) single scans separated by interscan pauses are replaced by a continuous data acquisition with continuous table movement (Kalender et al. 1990). This volume scanning that needs less than 1 min requires new modalities of i. v. contrast medium administration. There are many earlier experience on bolus administration of contrast medium in sequential CT (Claussen and Lochner 1983; Foley 1989; Kloeppel and Wittek 1985; Krahe et al. 1985; Partanen et al. 1984) that should be used for spiral CT. There are only few studies on spiral CT (Bautz et al. 1992; Galanski et al. 1992; Heike et al. 1993; HeImberger et al. 1993; Honda et al. 1992; Lenz et al. 1993; Marchal et al. 1991; Marchal and Baert 1992; ZWickeret al. 1993). The present study will be focussed on the transition between the initial and the continuous enhancement in upper abdomen.
