Zusammenfassung
Was wir in Kap. 11 und 12 über molekulare Strukturen erfahren haben, wurde im Laufe von mehr als einem Jahrhundert auf der Grundlage von experimentellen Daten erarbeitet. Wie auch in der Atomphysik ist dabei Spektroskopie die wichtigste Quelle der Informationen, auf denen unser heutiges Verständnis der Moleküle aufbaut. Wir fassen hier zunächst noch einmal kurz die wichtigsten Grundlagen aus Kap. 11.2 zusammen.
In Kap. 11 und 12 haben wir die Struktur und Eigenschaften von zwei- und mehratomigen Molekülen besprochen und die Grundlagen der Rotations- und Schwingungsspektroskopie kennengelernt. Hier wollen wir dies vertiefen und sodann an ausgewählten Beispielen auch in die Spektroskopie elektronischer Übergänge einführen. Diese ist heute in weiten Teilen geprägt durch die Verfügbarkeit schmalbandiger, meist auch abstimmbarer Laser einerseits, und Synchrotronstrahlungsquellen andererseits, die zusammen einen extrem breiten Spektralbereich vom fernen Infrarot bis ins Röntgengebiet erschließen.
