Abstract
Older adults on the rehabilitation unit often present with complex psychological needs that can impact on their stay. Depression, anxiety, cognitive impairment, and behavioral issues may impede recovery from illness or injury. This chapter offers an overview of the aging and mental health issues relevant to the rehab setting. Dementia, depression, and delirium are common differential diagnoses. Assessments and interventions should be adapted to the needs of an older adult. Interdisciplinary teamwork is identified as a critical component of effective care with this population.
