Abstract

The patient collective you see and treat as an ophthalmologist is very much dependent on the national health system. Glaucoma and diabetic patients are most dependent on good and regular treatment. The quality of the diabetic screening is reflected by the severity of diabetic retinopathy you encounter in your operating room. This can be very well observed in the following case reports from Sweden with a rigid centralized diabetic screening system and Serbia with a practically nonexistent diabetic screening system.
