Abstract

The time has come when the neglect of an exploration of our fundamental assumptions about the mind-brain relationship to behavior and, therefore, to society must be made explicit. An undercurrent of confusion about such issues impairs our clinical judgment and impedes our research efforts. We give lip service to certain kinds of eclecticism without coming to grips with the real issue, an ancient Cartesian dichotomy between mind and brain.
