Abstract

Several kinds of extragalactic systems have been suggested to be galaxies which are very young in evolutionary terms. The evidence is reviewed, and we conclude that it is most likely that the rare but very powerful IRAS galaxies with luminosities > 1012L are young with ages less than 109 years.
