Gelation in reactive polyester powder coating systems

Abstract

The curing process of carboxyl terminated polyester — triglycidyl cianurate system was investigated by thermoanalytical and rheological methods. On the basis of evaluation of activation energies the curing process was divided into three stages and the reaction rates were calculated for these stages. Simplified kinetics equations were derived for the three stages of process and the feasibility of these equations was evaluated. A simple rheological evaluation method was elaborated to calculate the rate constants from the measured rheological parameters. The method gave good results.
