Summary

A brief review of the state of child health services in Pondicherry which existed in 1960 and its change in the recent past is given. The problems are many. An attempt has been made to analyse them and to suggest methods for solving them in a scientific and systematic way considering the available financial and technical resources of the State. It is felt that if due consideration is given to child health, it would be possible to avoid many crippling and lasting disorders which are affecting the young population of this State today. A comprehensive child health programme which has been started in Villianur block is worth starting in other parts of the State. A good preventive and educative programme for the parent and children is the need which will reduce the morbidity due to infective and nutritional factors and hence reduce the load on the hospital services. It will also reduce the time spent on the care of sick children by the family.
