Evaluation of Shale Gas Resource Potential in Devonian–Carboniferous of Yaziluo Region

Abstract

Dananpanjiang area was experienced multiple–period tectonic movements. In Hercynian period, platform blocks controlled by two group of faults of northwest and northeast directions formed the geosyncline-platform facies. A large number of mud shales deposited in the geosynclines which provided the basis of source rock of shale gas. By shale gas block optimizing selection methods of comprehensive evaluation including hydrocarbon source rock characteristic, reservoir characteristics, and preservation condition, mud shales of the Devonian and Lower Carboniferous in Yaziluo faults were high-quality source rocks in the great Nanpanjiang area, which were featured of relatively high abundance of organic matter, high evolution degree, and deep-water sedimentary environment. Mud shales of the Devonian and Lower Carboniferous were good-quality reservoir, high content of brittle mineral good fracturing ability. The Qianxinan depression and northern of Nanpanjiang depression along the Yaziluo fault zone were determined as favorable exploration targets because mud shales were widely distributed, large thickness, moderate buried depth, and also were featured of weak tectonic deformation and good preservation conditions.
