Test and Assessment of Air Purifier [1–2]

Abstract

Since the air supply and exhaust openings are not uniform for air purifier (portable type, which is different from in-duct type) and their shapes are various, it is not suitable to be tested on the test rig. In 1985, Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) developed a test method for the above so-called portable air purifier. Air purifier is placed in the center of a sealed cabin with volume 30 m3 (height × area = 2.5 m × 3.5 m × 3.4 m = 29.75 m3 ≈ 30 m3). Tobacco smoke is used to obtain the initial concentration in the camber. Then the pollution removal efficiency of air purifier is measured for many times within a certain period continuously. Before the test, the smoke removal efficiency in self-decay process without air purifier is measured at first.
