Abstract

Trauma nowadays accounts for one of the most important causes of childhood mortality. According to a world report by the WHO and UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) in 2008, every single day, more than 2000 children die because of accidents. Although fractures of limbs and head and neck injuries are most common, around 10% of trauma deaths in childhood are due to abdominal injuries [1–3]. The abdomen can be afflicted in penetrating or blunt manner. There is difference in this data with respect to developed and developing country [3]. Injury pattern in children is governed by age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. In children more than 1 year of age, approximately 50% of deaths are due to trauma [1].
