Wideband Designs of 60° Sectoral Microstrip Antenna Using Parasitic Angular Sectoral Patches

Abstract

Wideband designs of the novel and compact 60° Sectoral microstrip antennas are proposed. At fundamental mode frequency of 1500 MHz, single Sectoral patch yields bandwidth of greater than 550 MHz (>35%) with a peak gain of above 7 dBi. Enhancement in bandwidth and the peak gain of Sectoral configuration is obtained by gap-coupling angular Sectoral patches of the same angle with 60° Sectoral patch antenna. Design with additional Sectoral patch gives a bandwidth of nearly 750 MHz (>45%) whereas that with two angular Sectoral patches it yields a bandwidth of approximately 900 MHz (>50%). The peak gain of 10 dBi is realized in the gap-coupled design of 60° Sectoral patch to that with two angular Sectoral patches.
