Abstract

Most intelligent people, and especially those who have experienced it, would say that modern warfare is both evil and undesirable. Beyond this, however, there is little measure of agreement. For while some of us consider cruelty, bad faith and the suppression of freedom to be even greater evils, others think the demands of national or political loyalty should be rated more highly. Our approach is essentially subjective and it changes as we grow older and wiser and more tolerant.
