Synopsis
A concept to leach nickeliferous pyrrhotite in a weak oxidation medium was proposed. In this selective leach process, Fe2+ is liberated into solution, elemental sulphur is dissociated from FeS, but other components in nickeliferous pyrrhotite— heavy metal sulphides and precious metal minerals, remain in undissolved state. Marvellously these undissolved minerals are agglutinated and captured by dissociated sulphur while the latter agglomerates in a form of sulphur—pearls. By means of this way, nickel, copper, cobalt, precious metals, even all components in nickeliferous pyrrhotite are expected to be recovered or made use of.
