Abstract

Most of Europe experienced a period of major economic progress during the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. At that time, Poland did not even exist on the political map of Europe; it was mainly part of the economic peripheries of surrounding countries such as Austria, Germany and Russia. This was reflected in agricultural practices which were primitive compared to the development trends in other parts of Europe. Similarly, the development trends of industry, trade and urbanization were also slow to occur.
