Abstract
Data concerning the monitoring of trace contaminants in freshwater ecosystems have been included elsewhere in this text, where these are relevant to particular topics under discussion. However, the present chapter provides a consolidated synthesis of studies to date on trace metals, organochlorines and hydrocarbons in freshwater environments, and contrasts the approaches taken in such environments with those used in marine or estuarine ecosystems.
