Abstract

In the period from 1784 to 1834 twenty-two plays concerning the life of Pierre Corneille (1606–1684) had been written. Of this number, however, only four plays were actually published and only six were staged in Paris.1 Since all the published plays present Corneille as already a mature man and a recognized master of French drama, it was necessary to search for the reviews of the unpublished plays, in order to find a dramatization depicting him in an earlier period of his life. Such a dramatization was found reviewed in the Courrier des spectacles of July 6, 1820.
