Abstract
In 1980, the University of the Witwatersrand received a substantial bequest from an Anglican priest, Canon C. T. Wood. Through the intervention of Wood, the Department of Historical Papers became home to a substantial collection of Church of the Province records and in the wake of his death the Department welcomed a wealth of additional church material as well as Wood’s personal papers. These included diaries, lectures, articles, memoranda, notebooks, photographs, sermons and letters addressed to Wood. In addition, the University received a cash sum, which still sustains many special archival projects to this day.
