How to take into Account Deformation in a CAD-Based Euler Optimization Process?

Abstract

In order to reduce the costs involved in designing new airplanes with increased configuration complexity, a real necessity emerges to develop efficient optimization tools. The present paper discusses the implementation within the Euler optimization loop of a new approach to take into account surface displacements: the mesh deformation.

Progress was made possible by the support of DGA. Part of this paper has been done in the framework of specific aeronautics research of the AEROSHAPE programme. The AEROSHAPE project (Multi-Point Aerodynamic Shape Optimization) is a collaboration between Aerospatiale Matra Airbus, Alenia Aeronautica (Coordinator), DASA-Airbus, DASA-M, Dassault-Aviation, SAAB, SENER, SYNAPS, CIRA, DERA, DLR, FFA, INRIA, HCSA, NLR, ONERA and DIVIS. The project is funded by the European Commission, DG Research, under the GROWTH initiative (Project Ref: GRD1-1999-10752).
