Abstract

Aesthetic experiences sometimes find their external expression in value judgements. It is a fact that these are changeable and differ widely. It often happens that a particular listener or viewer changes his evaluation of an art work under the influence of various factors. Divergency of opinions also occur among different members of an audience. This diversity in appreciation is the ground for two opposing views on the nature of aesthetic value judgements, known as subjectivism and objectivism. Until recently the dispute between them was conducted mainly on philosophical grounds, with occasional reference to some general observations of a psychological or sociological character.
