Abstract
International conferences on hydrography (Washington, 1899; St. Petersburg, 1912; London, 1919) were the predecessors of the creation of the International Hydrographic Organization. After the Conference in London, the International Hydrographic Bureau (IHB) was founded as an international intergovernmental organization with its residence in Monaco. At that time, 19 states were members.
