Abstract

When in the year 1932 W. Kunze performed his cosmic ray experiments with a Wilson cloud chamber in the university of Rostock the electrification of this town was still a small scale one. For measuring the momenta of the cosmic ray particles Kunze installed a large coil with 1.2 tons of copper to produce the necessary magnetic field in the cloud chamber. For that purpose a strong current of about 1000 Amperes at 500 Volts had to be sent through this coil and the only way to do this was to use the electricity power supply of the town (Kunze, 1933).
