Abstract
The history of critical care is not an overworked topic. As I waited for Dr. Reiser’s paper to arrive, I wondered how I would go about writing such a paper, if our roles in this conference had been reversed. This mental exercise created a bit of anxiety largely because so few articles and books on the history of critical care sprang quickly to mind, even fewer that approached the material from an ethical point of view.
