Abstract
Positive definite functions seem to be a class of functions encountered in many branches of mathematics; we mention, especially, probability theory where the best known place is that offered by the famous Bochner theorem of characteristic functions. By now there is a great deal of information on this class of functions due essentially to D. A. Raikov, A. Weil, R. Godement, etc.
