Abstract
The central 5-HT1A agonist, 8-OH-DPAT has been reported to produce dose-related decreases in blood pressure and heart rate in anaesthetized rats [1, 3]. The hypotensive effect of 8-OH-DPAT appears to be due to a central sympatho-inhibitory effect [4, 5] and these effects are antagonized by spiperone [5], metergoline [3] and (-) pindolol [6] indicating that the decrease in sympathetic tone produced by 8-OH-DPAT is probably due to the stimulation of central 5-HT1A receptors. The propose of the present work was mainly to localize the sites of action of 8-OH-DPAT in the CNS.
