Summary
Our recent investigations demonstrated that antibodies in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of some AD patients recognize cholinergic neuronal populations in the rat central nervous system (CNS). The present study correlated immunocytochemical markings produced by AD and control CSF samples in a cholinergic brain region with clinical and CSF protein parameters. There was a higher incidence of positive markings produced by AD CSF compared to control CSF. No correlation was noted with basic clinical data. However, the blood-brain barrier function was significantly correlated with immunocytochemical markings produced by AD CSF.
