Zusammenfassung

Die Erweiterung des Gefäßdurchmessers um mindestens 50 % zum vor- oder nachgeschalteten gesunden Gefäßabschnitt wird definitionsgemäß als „Aneurysma“ (altgriechisch: ανɛύρυσμα = Erweiterung) bezeichnet. Der durchschnittliche Durchmesser der abdominalen Aorta beträgt geschlechts- und altersabhängig etwa 1,7–2,0 cm. Im abdominellen Aortensegment wird daher im internationalen Konsens ab einem Querdurchmesser von 3,0 cm von einem „Aortenaneurysma“ gesprochen; Erweiterungen zwischen 2,5 und 3,0 cm werden dagegen als „Aortenektasie“ bezeichnet (Hirsch et al. 2006). Beim AAA besteht in der Regel eine Erweiterung aller 3 Wandschichten (Aneurysma verum). Es handelt sich daher im Gegensatz zu dissezierenden Aneurysmen um echte Aneurysmen ohne Intimaflaps und falsche Lumina (falsche Aneurysmen Kap. Aneurysmatische Gefäßerkrankungen: Terminologie, Ätiologie und Lokalisation) (Abb. 1).
