Anatomisch werden innerhalb der Prostata die zentrale Zone, die Übergangszone und die periphere Zone unterschieden. Während sich das Prostataadenom durch ein Wachstum der Übergangszone entwickelt, haben die meisten Karzinome ihren Ursprung in der peripheren Zone.
