One Dimensional Transient Dynamic Analysis with Adaptive Mesh Refinement

Abstract

An adaptive finite element (FE) method for the solution of one dimensional transient dynamic problems is described. The mesh adaption is achieved by regenerating the grid into a number of regions using an error estimation procedure coupled with an automatic mesh generator. A numerical example of this mesh adaption technique is presented for the problem of a bar subjected to a suddenly applied end load.
