Determination of Bond Strength Between a Coating and Base Metal

Abstract

At present there is no unified term specifying the bond strength between the base metal and coating referred to a unit of their common surface. The following terms are in most common use: adhesion, adhesive bond strength, coating-substrate bond strength, and adhesion strength of coating joint with a substrate. Obviously, such terminological uncertainty of one of the most important coating characteristics causes confusion both in special literature and technical documentation in studies of coating properties under industrial conditions.
