Abstract
Most varicoceles are left-sided. The monitor is therefore placed next to the patient’s left thigh. The surgeon stands to the right of the patient. A 5-mm laparoscope is placed through the umbilicus, and a 2-mm trocar is inserted at the level of the umbilicus at the lateral margin of the rectus muscle. This is a relatively avascular area. Going through the rectus muscle carries the risk of bleeding. A second 2-mm trocar is inserted above the bladder in an area likely to be covered later by pubic hair.
