Abstract
Plenty of literature exists concerning the successful use of laser light as well as of high frequency currents in surgery, thereby a certain amount of publications reporting about risks and injuries, however. Thus, the aim of this paper is to summarize and analyze the published data about injuries occurred with the use of lasers or high frequency devices. The reported events were classified according to their avoidability or unavoidability (risks inherent to the energy source used). Finally, some strategies to avoid injuries and to minimize risks will be discussed.
