Abstract

Relentless advances in technology are dramatically affecting the computer industry itself. The legacy systems and glass houses of only a decade ago are becoming transformed into interconnected networks of high-performance workstations and desktop personal computers. Ultra-high speed digital highways are basically changing the nature of telecommunication and the services it provides. This talk will explore these technology changes and the impacts they are having on the globalization of a variety of industries and, in particular, the computer industry. Implications about curricula, research, development, and technology transfer in universities will also be discussed.
