Zusammenfassung
Das Prostatakarzinom (PK) ist eine häufige Erkrankung bei Männern jenseits des 50. Lj. und liegt in den meisten Ländern an der zweiten Stelle der Krebstodesfälle beim Mann nach dem Lungenkarzinom. In der Europäischen Gemeinschaft beträgt die Krebstodesrate des Prostatakarzinoms ca. 9% (Moller-Jensen et al. 1990). Dabei ist die Inzidenz und Mortalität des PK in den meisten westlichen Ländern im Ansteigen begriffen. Dies ist teilweise durch die erhöhte Lebenserwartung bedingt, jedoch dadurch allein nicht zu erklären.
