Abstract

Oil pollution of ground waters has been an important problem during the last 20 years in most countries. In some cases it has lead to the design and construction of special water treatment plants using for example ozone and/or activated carbon. The large importance of mineral oil products with respect to the number of accidents and the volume lost to the environment can be seen from Table 1 which contains data for the Federal Republic of Germany for the years 1982–1984.
