Abstract

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland only at night during the dark in both diurnal and nocturnal animals [1,2]. Exposure to light during the night acutely suppresses melatonin production [3,4]. Most animals are exquisitely sensitive to light and will completely suppress their melatonin production when exposed to 10 — 500 lux light.
