Abstract

The reopening of an occluded coronary artery after an acute myocardial infarction is an attractive therapeutic concept for the salvation of jeopardized myocardium. Although streptokinase infusion reopens the occluded coronary artery in the majority of cases, the functional result, as measured either by left ventricular angiography or by myocardial perfusion studies with thallium-201, is sometimes disappointing. The present study was undertaken in order to elucidate some possible factors which determine the functional result.
