Abstract

This article will focus on processes in the replication of duplex DNA, the genetic determinant of all organisms and many viruses. The emphasis on specific molecular events during replication which are presently under extensive investigation will limit this article to the presentation mainly of studies in bacteria, plasmids, and viruses. When possible, observations primarily made in prokaryotes will be extended to results of studies in eukaryotes. The publications cited are essentially all from the last two years, so that readers who wish to obtain more specified and basic information will find relevant references in the cited articles.
