Abstract
As there has been much progress in this field in the last two years, this chapter has been divided into two parts: a general overview, and a specialized article on molecular data of organelle genes. As chloroplast genetics will be thoroughly treated in the next volume of this series, it will not be focused here; besides this field is covered by excellent recent reviews (BEDBROOK, J.R., KOLODNER, R.: The structure of chloroplast DNA.
