Zusammenfassung

Bei der fibromuskulären Dysplasie (FMD) handelt es sich um eine nichtarteriosklerotische, nichtentzündliche, vorwiegend stenosierende, seltener aneurysmatische oder disseziierende Erkrankung der Arterien mittlerer Größe, die oft asymptomatisch verläuft und meist erst erkannt wird, wenn sie je nach Lokalisation zu entsprechenden ischämischen Erscheinungsbildern führt. Die Erstbeschreibung der FMD stammt, noch bevor dieser Terminus gebräuchlich war, aus dem Jahre 1938 [65]. Der Begriff der FMD wurde 1958 von McCormack et al. [79] eingeführt. Beide Autorengruppen beschrieben die Erkrankung an den Nierenarterien. Die erste Mitteilung einer zerebrovaskulären Form der FMD stammt aus dem Jahre 1965 [16] (Abb. 15.1)
