Brazilian Minimum Efficiency Level for Industrial Motors: A Successful Low Cost Program

Abstract

This paper presents the process and the developed actions that made the atmosphere fertile to the Protocol Signature for establishing the minimum efficiency level for three-phase induction motor. The assumptions on which our strategy was based are showed. The set-up of all aspects led to establishment of two minimum efficiency levels: one for standard motors and other for high efficiency motors. The tables are compared with EPACT 92 and CEMEP tables. The present motor efficiencies of the main Brazilian motor manufacturers are compared with the CEMEP tables. The final comments are presented showing our concerns about CEMEP tables. This strategy has been proved to be successful and low cost. It would be well adequate to the developing countries or part of it could be adjusted for developed countries.
