Zusammenfassung
Die Prävalenz von Rückenschmerzen in der deutschen Bevölkerung wurde in verschiedenen Studien ermittelt. Für die Punktprävalenz wurden Werte zwischen 27,0% und 48,8%, für die Jahresprävalenz zwischen 62,7% und 76,9% und für die Lebenszeitprävalenz zwischen 68,5% und 84,3% angegeben. Bereits bei den 18- bis 29jährigen zeigten sich dabei Lebenszeitprävalenzen zwischen 60 und 70%. Ein Graduierungssystem bezifferte die Punktprävalenz starker Schmerzen mit 10% aller Probanden. Die direkten und indirekten Kosten durch Rückenschmerzen werden auf 33 Milliarden Mark geschätzt. Der Erkrankungsverlauf bei Rückenschmerzen wird nach neuesten epidemiologischen Studien als chronisch-remittierend klassifiziert. Nur 27% der Befragten waren innerhalb eines Jahres schmerzfrei. Von 64% derjenigen Probanden, die zunächst eine negative Punktprävalenz angaben, entwickelten 60% im Folgejahr Schmerzen [40, 42, 43].
