Definition

Die Aortitis ist eine Entzündung der Aorta, der großen Körperschlagader, die vom Herzen durch Brust- und Bauchraum in die Peripherie führt. Eine Aortitis ist eine seltene Erkrankung, die definiert ist durch eine Inflammation des Aortengewebes. Dies lässt sich aufgrund der Ursachen differenzieren in:

  • Infektiöse (syphilitische) Aortitis

  • Infektiöse nichtsyphilitische (bakterielle oder fungale) Aortitis

  • Nichtinfektiöse Aortitis im Sinne einer Vaskulitis großer Arterien (z. B. Takayasu-Arteriitis, Riesenzellarteriitis und Atherosklerose)

Die Feststellung der individuellen Ursache einer Aortitis ist von besonderem Interesse, da beispielsweise eine immunsuppressive Therapie einen aktiven infektiösen Prozess aggravieren kann (Gornik und Creager 2008).
