Abstract
Among the substances probably produced by neurosecretory cells are the colour change hormones or chromatophorotropins in crustaceans. Several such hormones acting on red, black and white chromatophores have been demonstrated, but the exact number is not agreed on. The first one discovered was the hormone causing concentration of red chromatophores in prawns and occurring mainly in the Sinus gland of the eyestalk. Since the discovery of this hormone a number of others have been described, and several workers have tried to isolate and chemically define various colour change hormones.
