Zusammenfassung

Die Geschichte des implantierbaren Portes ist eng verbunden mit der Geschichte der implantierbaren Pumpen. Das Port ist sozusagen ein Abfallprodukt bei der Entwicklung der implantierbaren Pumpen. Port (englisch „der Hafen, die Anlegestelle“) bedeutet eine unter der Haut liegende und damit von außen durch Punktion zugängige Kammer, die jederzeit eine Injektion oder Infusion erlaubt, wobei der Injektionsort von der Plazierung des mit dem Port verbundenen Katheters abhängt.
